Balance of System components incorporate all the pieces of a renewable energy system except
for the solar panels and their mounting system. K-1 Hybrids stocks all of the major components
and associated accessories you will require for a successful project.
We stock a variety of batteries to suit your solution. Flooded lead acid deep cycle batteries from Trojan, Surrette,
and Global Yuasa, 2 volt up to 6 volt, 225 amp hr. to 2400 amp hr. Sealed Lead acid from Deka, Magnacharge, and ReadyWatt,
in 6 and 12 volt Deep Cycle. We do not carry or use automotive starting batteries as they are not designed for deep
cycling.
These are voltage regulators designed to regulate the incoming voltage from Solar electric (PV or Photovoltaic)
modules to charge and maintain batteries. These come in various types from the simple shunt style to PWM (Pulse width
modulating) to MPPT (Maximum point power tracking). Some can also be used as diversion controllers when connected to
a dump load to keep batteries from overcharging when installed in certain wind and microhydro applications. Dump loads
can be immersion water heaters or air heaters.
Using less energy means you can build a smaller system and save money. We offer a few products to keep tabs on your energy use.
Hybrid systems have more than one power source. It can be a wind and solar energy system or solar and generator
system or any combination of those. With more than one power source you are able to generate power at different times
of the day or night. It can also help in seasonal short comings of a particular resource. They also help reduce
dependence on fossil fuelled generators.
We carry a full line of products for Class 1 Division 2 Hazardous areas. PV modules, charge controllers, power converters and battery and control boxes.
Solar Electric (PV) modules convert sunlight into DC electricity. They work best when they are mounted perpendicular
to the sun so you should adjust their mount angles seasonally. Shadows and other blockages of light will reduce their
output. Cold weather however will increase their efficiency. They come in a few types, Crystalline (mono and multi)
and Amphorous. Mono crystalline are generally the most efficient (occupy the least amount of area for the most energy
generated.
These convert battery or PV DC power to household AC power. Battery based inverters come in basically 2 types:
modified sine wave or square wave and sine wave. Sine wave is comparable to your household grid power and some
inverters may actually produce a more reliable sine wave than your utility.
Modified sine wave inverters are a less expensive inverter producing a wave form that is square and not rounded like
true sign wave units. These can make motors run hotter, some appliances will make different noises when operated by
modified sine wave inverters. Sensitive equipment may not even run using these.
Some inverters offer battery charging, hard wire capability (wire to sub panels) sleep modes and other bells and
whistles. While others may only offer a dual receptacle to plug your appliance in to.
Combination inverter, AC / DC disconnects, battery charger and charge controller mounted on a single backing plate for ease of installation.
Need a little more power for your batteries? Can't find campsites with electrical power when
you need it? Maybe you like to camp where there is no electricity. Tired of running noisy
generators, or maybe they won't let you run your generator. If you answered yes to any of these
questions then solar energy is for you.
Use the power of the sun to provide hot water to your home. These systems are designed to work with your existing infrastructure.
Mobile power can be an issue when you work in northern climates. Alberta is a very active
jurisdiction, people need reliable equipment to do the job at hand. Fussing with gasoline
powered generators when it is -25° C is not what most people call fun.
We offer DC water pumps, from Grudfos, Dankoff and Shurflo. Deep well pumps to surface pumps.
The SQFlex Grudfos will operate on both AC or DC power, battery, wind or solar. Very versatile!
Convert the wind into energy, a very novel idea that has been around for hundreds of years. The units we offer
range in size from 1.15m rotor diameter to 4.5m. Most are battery chargers but grid tie is available to folks who
don't want to mess with batteries. A good wind resource with proper siting and installation will make for a happy
turbine owner.
